In general, this phase will consist of you providing information to fulfill your auditor’s requests to be able to complete the exam and form an opinion for the auditor’s report. Leisure and hospitality posted the biggest increase, with an addition of 28,000 workers, while trade, transportation and utilities added 23,000, and construction rose by 22,000. Services-providing companies were responsible for 77,000 jobs, with goods producers adding the rest. Only one sector — information services (-9,000) — reported a decline, but hiring was slow across virtually all sectors.

However, in reality, a plan sponsor does not need to have all of the user controls in place. Obtaining a SOC report demonstrates to your customers—current and potential—that you take risk management and data security seriously.

Once your organization has completed a SOC examination, the auditor will issue a SOC report. The SOC report itself is what you’ll provide to your customers to prove that you have completed a SOC examination. Type 2 extends past the defined system description and design of controls to include testing of those controls. The emphasis goes beyond the existence of the controls to their operating effectiveness over the long haul. While the SOC 2 report can be helpful for internal improvement and evaluation of the non-financial controls that it’s focused on, the need is usually driven by customers.

Since the service auditor is not signing the bridge letter, they are not attesting to the design or operating effectiveness of the internal controls within the gap period. Once the service auditors have issued the SOC report, the service auditors do not know definitively if the internal control environment has materially changed or not. This is because the service auditors have not performed any additional control testing between the end of the report period and the user organization’s year-end. However, the service organization’s management knows if there have been any changes in the control environment and if internal controls are still operating effectively, which they capture in the bridge letter. Management of the service organization is responsible for writing and providing user entities a bridge letter upon request. A bridge letter—also known as a gap letter—is simply a letter that bridges the “gap” between the service organization’s report date and the user entity’s year-end (i.e., calendar or fiscal year-end).

For example, payroll service providers such as ADP and Paychex provide a materially relevant service (payroll) that could impact the financials of their clients. The ADP National Employment Report is an independent measure and high-frequency view of the private-sector labor market based on actual, anonymized payroll data of more than 25 million U.S. employees. Each report type takes an investment of time, of course, with Type 2 reports requiring a longer and more regular adp soc 1 report commitment since they test your controls over a period of time. As the name implies, insourcing refers to the practice of having in-house teams perform functions that could be handled by outside companies or contactors. In addition to delivering lower costs and increased efficiencies, companies that outsource could see other benefits.
